UNANI : Theoretical Framework

The Unani system of medicine originated in ancient Greece. It is derived from the word "Yunan" which denotes Ionian greeks. Unani's theoretical framework is based on the theories of Hippocrates, who lived from 460 to 377 BC. The therapeutic approach of Unani medicine is to consciously stimulate the human body's boon to fight disease, with an emphasis on diet and rest.
Unani treatment is based on the four humors of the human body. Dum (sanguine), balgam (phlegm), safra (choleric), and sauda (Melancholic).
In Unani, the body is considered to be composed of the following seven natural principles or components
⊙ Arkan or Elements:
Earth, Water, Air, and Fire are seen as different components of matter and the building blocks of everything in nature.
⊙ Mizaj (temperament)
⊙ Akhlat (humours)
⊙ A'za (organs)
⊙ Arwah (pneuma)
⊙ Quwa (power) and
⊙ Af'al (functions).
In Unani, it is important to carefully examine the four bodily humors to find out which of them is dominant in the diseased state and why?. And to analyze the patient's pulse in detail to understand the imbalance between them.
The exact method of Unani is to prescribe the line of treatment and dose according to the condition of each patient by carefully observing the changes and transformations it causes in the individual and giving necessary additional treatments and suggestions. Along with this, the patient is prescribed necessary restrictions in diet and lifestyle.
Unani has an unparalleled therapeutic effect on diseases such as arthritis, asthma, mental illness, heart disorders, digestive problems, urinary disorders, etc, which are known as chronic diseases. Modern research results reveal that Unani is a wonderful cure for malaria, hepatitis B, blood-borne diseases, skin diseases, etc.
